Ruby on Rails Developer

 

Hansell Tierney is looking for an experienced web application engineer with experience on at least one major Rails project to join our client’s Seattle team. Our client is a well-funded startup that brings neighbors together and helps them get things done.

Qualifications:

  • Experience delivering new, innovative features using Ruby on Rails, MySQL, jQuery, Memcached, MongoDB, and other open source tools
  • Comfortable developing any portion of Rails application stack from data store layer to browser
  • Insistence on Test Driven Development
  • Experience with different data access challenges, caching techniques, scalability best practices
  • Strong database and data modeling skills — experience with MySQL and NoSQL variants, like Hadoop and other map/reduce technologies is a plus
  • Excel at designing and iterating solutions in small teams
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals and understanding of data structures and algorithms.
  • Proficiency working in a Linux environment
  • Excited to work in a highly iterative development process with continual production releases
  • 5+ years developing web applications
  • BS, Computer Science or equivalent work experience

An ideal candidate would also have:

  • Strong Javascript and XHR coding skills including experience, jQuery and/or Backbone.js preferred
  • Good knowledge of HTML and CSS best practices
  • •Experience building multiple consumer facing web applications backed by MySQL
  • Strong sense of what makes for a highly usable application
  • Experience interfacing with applications such as Facebook
  • Previous experience with an early-stage venture-backed startup
  • Experience with cloud computing (particularly Amazon)
